Privacy Policy

Last updated June 1, 2026

This page describes what data we collect when you visit Docket News, how we use it, who we share it with, and how you can ask us to delete it.

What we collect

We collect a small amount of data, and only what we need:

  • Newsletter subscriptions. If you sign up for The Legal Brief, we store your email address and the date you subscribed.
  • Analytics. We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which articles get read. We do not store IP addresses or cross-site identifiers.
  • Messages you send us. If you contact us through the contact page, we receive whatever you write.

What we do not collect

  • We do not run advertising networks or behavioral retargeting.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share reader data with brokers.
  • We do not use third-party tracking cookies for marketing. The only cookies we set are functional (e.g., remembering a dismissed banner).

How we use your data

We use newsletter email addresses only to send The Legal Brief and occasional editorial updates. We use analytics only to make editorial decisions about coverage. We use messages you send us to reply to you and, where relevant, to inform reporting.

Retention

Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained in aggregate form for up to 24 months. Reader correspondence is retained for as long as it is editorially relevant.

Your rights

You can ask us to delete your newsletter subscription, your contact correspondence, or any other data we hold about you. Send the request to the address on our contact page and we will confirm deletion within a reasonable period.

Children

Docket News is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If we change this policy materially, we will update the "Last updated" date above and announce the change in the newsletter.
